What Counts as Short Cycling
A typical cooling cycle runs for a meaningful stretch — often ten to twenty minutes or considerably longer on hot days. Cycles that end after three to five minutes, repeatedly, qualify as short cycling. The pattern usually appears alongside complaints that the house feels clammy, or that some rooms never get comfortable even though the thermostat reads correctly.
Why It Matters
Compressors draw their highest current at startup. Frequent starts increase wear, generate heat and shorten component life.
